Dear Landholder,
We understand that you own land in wombat territory. The Society provides information and a number of services; some of which may be of use to you.
We understand most people don't want to hurt free living wombats but that at times wombat behaviour can cause people problems.
The Wombat Protection Society believes that wombats are best protected by first trying to resolve problems and concerns about their behaviour using people who know and understand that behaviour and have practical experience related to wombats.
We are concerned that practises such as culling only exacerbate problems like unwanted digging and burrows by allowing the recruitment of many more wombats into the area of the cull.
We are also concerned that misinformation about wombats leads to this unnecessary action.
- We provide inspections and advise about burrows and their status and activity.
- We provide safety advice regarding burrows.
- We provide an advisory service and access to relocation services where wombats are under houses or their behaviour is placing them at risk.
- We provide assistance for wombats with mange ( usually seen as hair loss)
- We provide a fencing advisory service both to assist in keeping wombats in and out of particular areas.
- We provide access to licensed groups to assist with the relocation of wombats where all other alternatives are exhausted and the animal is threatened
.
- We provide support to apply for and access environmental grants to fence riparian zones and create wildlife corridors.
- We provide information and assistance in monitoring wombats, to those wishing to maintain the health of their wombat population and learn about this amazing marsupial.
- We provide access to "Wombat Watching," an ecotourism activity that supports farmers and landowners by making wombats earn their living on farms.
If we can be of assistance please call us or write to us.
