Wombat Rise Sanctuary - Bob Cleaver in South Australia specializes in the Southern Hairy-Nosed Wombats and has a great photograph on the site of a Hairy-Nosed Wombat and her at heel joey born at the sanctuary. Bob kindly provided the picture of “Basil” who appears in the most recent sequence of four wombats on our letterhead and site. Fourth Crossing Wildlife - Linda Dennis in NSW has loads of wombat information on her site, including short term care tips, species information, photos, stories and care guides. This site has good information about native animals in general. Fauna Rescue of South Australia - This group does take in wombats but currently there is nothing on their site about wombats nor do they appear to have had any in care in the previous twelve months. WIRES - Wildlife Information and Rescue Service in NSW lists all its branches in NSW but does not indicate which ones deal with wombats. WIRES is developing a site map of NSW to indicate where its branches are located but does not have this on line currently. There is some information on site about wombats. Australian Fauna Care - provides search information for wombat (and other) rescue groups in South Australia and Victoria. Just type in Wombat into their Wildlife Rehabilitation Directory Search which is one of the best wildlife search facilities we have found. Its only limitation is that it is restricted to South Australia and Victorian organizations. You can use this database to search by State, Postcode, Town, Organisation, Name and or Speciality. Steve from Australian Fauna Care writes “The fauna database has about 250 listings from every state in Australia. However, the listings are based on the information provided by the individual / group / shelter. Often they do not specify what species they specialise in, so only the few who have specifically added in their species specialisation have that info in the search.” Tweed Valley Wildlife Carers have created the Australian Directory of Wildlife Rescue and Care Groups which is a comprehensive listing of over 160 groups Australia wide working with native animals and animals in general. Some of the numbers listed in this database need updating .The oganisation is reliant on those listed to provide up to date information. There is no facility to list specific animals dealt with. Help For Wildlife - has a 24 hour emergency service throughout Victoria and holds listings for rescue organizations Australia wide. Their web site is full of information about how to rescue native animals. Ph. 0417 380 687. If you have not done so already you will need to download Macromedia Flashplayer 6 to get into the site but links to this free download are provided. Wildlife Victoria - also has a 24 hour emergency rescue hotline called Wildline on 13 000 WILDLIFE (that's 13 000 94535). WRIN - Victoria’s Wildlife Rescue and Information Network on 0419 356 433 and has a 24 hour rescue service covering most of central Victoria and extending to South Australia and NSW. borders. NANA - is the Native Animal Network Association based on the South Coast of NSW. There is basic first aid information for native animals in general available on this site. Looking After Our Kosciuszko Orphans - (LAOKO) contains a picture of a wombat joey. This group work in the Snowy Mountains region of NSW. WILDCARE NSW - Their emergency rescue line is available 24/7 on 02 6299 1966. The territory covered by Wildcare surrounds the Australian Capital Territory and a site map shows the extent of the area.
